Courteney Cox Arquette
Courteney was born on June 15, 1964, in Birmingham, Alabama. She was the youngest of four children (two sisters, Virginia and Dottie, and one brother, Richard). When she was ten, her parents divorced, and both remarried. She soon had nine step- and half- brothers and sisters. Courteney intended to become an architect, but her stepfather's brother, Miles Copeland, encouraged her to go to NYC, and model. She soon got a contract, and her face appeared on magazines such as Tiger Beat and Young Miss. After completing her freshman year, she returned to NYC, and starred in commercials - most notably, that famous Tampax one, where she became the first person to say 'period' on television, without meaning the little dot at the end of a sentence. She had numerous walk-on parts in shows, and, in '84, was selected to do "that dance" with Bruce Springsteen, which made her name. She starred in many more small TV shows, until she got her break in Family Ties, as Michael J. Fox's girlfriend, Lauren. After that, the offers kept coming, and she starred in Ace Ventura, the film that really catapulted her to fame. She then got her audition for Rachel in Friends, but managed to persuade the directors to let her audition for Monica instead. And the rest is history...
Courteney married David Arquette, her co-star in the Scream Trilogy, in '99. The Scream Trilogy are probably her most successful films to date. Courteney, who has been quoted as saying "I *am* Monica Geller", enjoyed doing Scream because Gale Weathers was so unlike Monica.
When the other cast members met Courteney, they felt intimidated by her, as she was the most famous of all of them. However, she was the one who suggested they become a team, on screen and off.
